4TH AVENUE UNDERPASS CONSTRUCTION ALERT

This is a continuing series of construction alerts that will be issued throughout the construction of the 4th Avenue Underpass Improvement Project.  These alerts will announce construction, detour and closure information as it affects traffic.  Motorists are asked to obey all posted speed limit signs within the construction area and be alert for construction crews and personnel working in the area.

PLEASE NOTE: OTHER UNRELATED DOWNTOWN CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY MAY AFFECT TRAFFIC.

TRACK INSTALLATION ALONG NORTH 4TH AVENUE

4th Avenue, between 8th and 9th Streets is closed to through traffic while the contractor completes track installation along this section of roadway. Access to all businesses will remain open.  This closure is expected to be in place through July 18.

EASTBOUND BROADWAY TRAFFIC SHIFTS

On Thursday, June 26, eastbound Broadway traffic, between 6th and 4th Avenues, will be shifted to the north side of the roadway in order to accommodate underground utility work and roadway improvements in the area.   Left turns from Broadway onto northbound 5th Avenue will not be permitted.  This work is expected to be ongoing through July 2008.

SOUTH 4th AVENUE TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

South 4th Avenue will be restricted to businesses access only, from 12th Street to Broadway, to allow for underground utility work and roadway improvements in the area.  Business access will be maintained at all times.  Right turns from Broadway onto southbound 4th Avenue will not be permitted.  This closure is expected to be in place through the end of July.

5TH AVENUE TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

5th Avenue, between North Toole Avenue and Broadway, will be restricted to southbound travel only.  This restriction will enable the contractor to complete underground utility work, track installation and other roadway improvements in the area.

STEVENS AVENUE/5TH AVENUE OPEN

Stevens Avenue/5th Avenueis scheduled to open Saturday, June 21 from 8th Street south to Herbert Alley. 

The following traffic impacts remain in effect: 

  • 4th Avenue Underpass is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.  
  • Fourth Avenue businesses can be reached by using 6th Street.
  • Parking is available at the Pennington Street Garage.  The entrance to the garage is located on Scott Avenue, just north of Congress Street.

ACCESS TO BUSINESSES WILL BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES

IN THE EVENT OF MECHANICAL FAILURE OR INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE ABOVE SCHEDULE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians: Please be cautious, obey all posted construction signage, reduce speed limits and remember to share the road.
